I was a skeptic of chiropractors. I thought they were all quacks. That was 30 years ago. Today, I am a believer and living proof that chiropractic care works...provided you align (no pun intended) yourself with a quality, caring doctor that has the patient's best interests at heart...and I did. He diagnosed and explained my condition...and told me that he can help by treating the root cause and not the symptom. He also promised me that a time will come when he won't be able to help me any more and at that time he will recommend that I see a neurologist. I have personally overhead him telling potential clients that he can't treat them (when they were literally crying from the pain and begging him to help) because their problem was much too serious for him to attempt to treat.
Certainly quacks are out there...but good ones are too. The challenge is to find them. But, to answer your question...YES, chiropractic treatment works.
