PEMDAS with the problem written exactly as the OP gives 288.
Parentheses gives you 9+3=12. Problem is now 48/2*12.
No exponents.
MD is next step. (ETA: m doesn't take precedence over d, which is why you say it is 2. That is incorrect) Going from left to right as you're supposed to, 48/2=24. Problem is now 24*12.

The issue is of course that using a division sign is completely ambiguous, so 2 is also an acceptable answer. But lots of pages anyway.

Multiplication and division are equal in the order therefore you go left to right. The division comes before the multiplication in the problem given. 288
