This is completely wrong. We evolved into long distance runners/travelers. We did this as a means to subdue prey animals that were much larger than us. As a small group of hunters we'd chase these animals until they collapsed with exhaustion and then stab them with spears and knives. The reason we don't have true fur is so we can shed excess heat more efficiently. Also, our legs are much more efficient than most other species at energy conservation during locomotion because we store some of the energy needed for the next step as potential energy in our tendons from energy left over from the previous step.
