Sad. So many young people who are supposedly "fit" encounter this. Call me crazy but I think all this extreme running is not the healthiest of activities.

It isn't. Humans weren't made to run that far.

We're really ineffecient as a species when it comes to running.

I wouldn't call a half marathon "extreme"

if she had just run a 100 mile ultra, yeah thats one thing, but a half?

millions upon millions run halfs every weekend

she must have had some type of unknown heart defect

It's not at all. It causes scar tissue build up in the heart. There's also this:

Regardless, as with anything, sometimes the things we enjoy the most aren't the healthiest.
