And I'm just thankful that the only injury was a minor burn. shite gets pretty scary when a ladle(think big metal bucket) holding 15,000 pounds of molten steel, hovering 15 feet above the plant floor and shooting molten metal out at an angle like a fire truck water hose. Standing there helpless as one of my younger guys panics as he tries to get control of the situation, but even then he's standing on a 10 foot railed ladder over looking a 20 foot deep pit.

Definitely one of the most helpless moments of my life and one that made me come straight home and kiss my ole lady and hold my kids as tight as I possibly can.

Life is short guys. And it can end in a moments notice. Tell your family you love them, you never know when your time is up.

As a safety director for a company that performs industrial maintenance, I am glad your employee is ok and that situation could have gone south in a hurry. I would also caution you on putting stuff like this out on the interwebs because this can cause some serious issues. You might have on OSHA inspector on this site reading this and they could piece together information and pay your plant a visit which is never good. Not to mention the legalities in the event that this situation becomes a civil suit.

Worker was probably drooling over your elementary school homecoming photo and not paying attention to what he was doing.
