I have to disagree. The only thing hurting that album is the production quality (e.g. volume of Jason's bass). From a writing and musicianship standpoint it is considered by many critics and fans to be the epitome of technical thrash metal.

Metallica was so far ahead of the pack when that album was released that it's impossible to conceive them regressing so much, in terms of simplifying arrangements, by the release of Metallica.

This guy knows what he is talking about. So spot on. AJFA was so far ahead of the game at the time. I hate that they dumbed themselves down to the mainstream with the Black Album but they got what they wanted. Worldwide fame.
