My young son got a turtle net and caught 9 on his first day with it set out. We are on a private lake with a large turtle population and he was asked to thin them out.

You probably need a licence to sell...

There's a market for almost all turtles. I know a guy who gets $2-4 or so for medium-large sliders, cooters, map turtles, etc. I think they go to china for meat. He keeps them until he gets a couple hundred and a guy comes and picks them up from him.

as tenfoe says, you are probably best off selling them alive...

when I was young, I trapped furs during the winter and turtles during the summer for spending money...

the real money was in loggerheads and snappers, but they did give a few bucks for redears, etc...

I would check with anyone who buys furs or with your local fish market to find buyer for that kind of thing...

Not so much for the shells but the meat is easily in the $9 per pound range for pretty much any species that gets large enough to clean. Large soft shells can fetch in the $75-$100 range live.

I'd seriously research the legality of selling them for food or as pets before you go doing that. Lemonade stand might be a better option to keep the little man out of trouble.

Didn't want to start a new thread, does anyone know if the bigass loggerhead or alligator snappers federally protected? I know I've seen pawpaw kill em and eat em, I didn't think they were protected at all.
