Probably, the plot to kill him was already planned and ready to be executed. Mary Todd Lincoln bought the tickets to relieve Lincoln's stress and that stress would have been bigger if Lee was going to the mountains (Lincoln feared a guerrilla war because he knew the north's sentiment would turn).
It probably would have been worse since the other conspirators probably would not have gotten cold feet or got too drunk to carry out the plot if they thought there was still a chance. Imagine the chaos if the conspirators assasinated everyone that they were suppose to.
