Hardhome happened but not like that
This was basically a replacement of the Battle at the Fist of First Men, which was passed over in like the 2nd season

Jon Snow did not go, but sent a around a dozen ships, they lost half the ships to bad weather. Ravens were sent to Jon telling him to send help by land since the seas were to dangerous, and that the situation is so bad the they are eating one in another. Jon sends Tormund, who is in route when the book ends.
Arya gets word in Braavos that wildling are arriving on slave ships from Hardhome.
The show did a great job last night.
