I think it may have been referenced, but not an actual scene (like Robb's marriage while off on campaign).

Jon did send ships to Hardhome to get the Wildlings, but it was a much different outcome. All of the ships but 6 are destroyed by weather before they get there. When they get there, the Wildings are in a lot more desperate situation as slavers had started taking some, and they had started eating their own. The Wildlings try and take one of the ships by force, which causes Pyke (the leader of the expedition) to send Jon a letter to send help. Jon decides to go by foot, but then Tormund takes command of that expedition. We still don't know the outcome of the Wildings that are still alive in Hardhome.
