Nah local dining is doing just fine....
places like Kevins, Swamp Pop, Dempsey's, Sammy's, Tommy's Fish House, Nooley's, Griffin Grill, Burger Delight, Starlight Cafe, etc etc etc.... are all still considered mom and pop type restaurants that are just fine.
Will you find a 4* type establishment, no as the closest thing you would have would be a Mike Anderson's on 30
But Gonzales/Prairieville area has a ton of local joints that offer great food for the price, a ton of gas stations and grocery stores offer meals that are on par with many restaurants.
When I mentioned "fine dining" I wasn't necessarily referring to expensive or refined dining. I just meant quality cuisine. While there might be a number of locally-owned establishments, I just have never cared for the majority of them.
Sometimes, I feel as though people enjoy them sheerly for the convenience and "homemade" feel.
Now there was a restaurant in Duplesis off of Airline near the Nissan dealership that I thoroughly enjoyed when I was younger. It was a bistro in a unsightly pink building that didn't serve alcohol but offered a variety of tasty food.

I agree with you 100%. While the restaurant's decor and environment has certainly improved, the food quality has steadily declined in the last few years.

Kevins is still considered an uppertier establishment in the area and while it may not be convenient for someone who lives closer to Prairieville Wal-Mart (neither would be many of the places listed) it would still be a great/close place for many.
The "homemade" feel is very important for many because when you go out with your family you want it to taste/feel like a home made meal, no way would I ask kids to go to some restaurants I visit because they would not enjoy the food and nothing caters to those people.
