The scene (and the character, Han Solo) doesn't make sense if Greedo shot first.

As soon as he sat down, Han intended on killing him. The "I'll bet you have" was the emphasis on this. No one calmly says this while returning fire.

Now, I don't think Solo is a sociopath - when he saw Greedo, it is pretty clear ("I'm probably going to have to kill this fool"), but he gave him a chance to walk away. When he wanted the Falcon as a bribe to go away, Han's next action was going to be to shoot him. After the "over my dead body" exchange, Han shoots him as Greedo doesn't even realize Han has already drawn on him.
