I know that the Saints still have plenty of deficiencies to address in the draft and the offseason

So you acknowledge that there are deficiencies; yet you want to overlook those to draft the "heir" to the thrown who won't see the field for 3+ years. Are you overlooking the fact that when you draft a QB that high, there is external pressure to play that QB now. plus, if you don't address those needs, the player won't have a chance to learn behind Brees bc he'll be thrown in the mix right away after Brees gets knocked all over the field.

I don't that will be the case here. If the Saint's go after Mariota, this season will be Brees' last season in New Orleans. They will let him sit behind Brees and learn for a year and try to trade Brees away next year. Reaslistically, we only have two more good seasons out of Brees. There will be teams who will be in the "win now mode" that will bite on the trade and are willing to rent Brees for a year or two. If they see their heir in Mariota, I wouldn't mind them making a move to grab him for the future. I wouldn't give up the house to do it though.
