10 yrs ago I bought a tin of Wolf steel cased ammo and after shooting a lot of rounds they left red remnants of something all over the BCG and near the action. They were difficult to clean off. Recently I shot some newer purchased Wolf steel and didn't have any remnants.
Perhaps the ammo I got yrs ago was very old ?
