One possible answer I think is that people can identify more with the plane crashers if they travel a lot. Maybe the topic is more sensationalized.

But then again, most people that post here are in college or have family/friends in college.

I can't help but think that if the attack in Kenya happened in other parts of the world, it would be more widely publicized.

So I don't know.

Close to what I would have said...


We all could be on a plane with a suicidal pilot. That could have been us.
We don't all attend college in Kenya, and thus aren't at risk of African tribal disputes.

No doubt. Remember the guy who killed all the students in Norway? Big news.

In Africa, mass killings are so common they surprise no one. Hutus/Tutsis, Muslims/Christians, warlords/government, there are so many and so many different rationales that no one really cares about it anymore.
