Uh no. Sony has been on top for only two generations. The N64 destroyed the PS1, PS2 destroyed the gamecube and Xbox, the Wii a won the next generation with the 360 behind it and right now the PS4 is winning this generation.
Nobody came close to touching Nintendo on console sales until the PS2 came out.

Then PS1 caught up and surpassed. This is why you saw late, rushed ports of games like Tony Hawk on the N64. But it was too little, too late. In terms of numbers, PS1 beat N64 hands down. N64 lost market share because of PS1's incredible third party support.
