As far as consoles go, they are. It's the only thing that they specialize in. The Xbox and Playstation are just branches of Microsoft and Sony. The Wii U is Nintendo.

Wut. They own so many popular and beloved series, but their output/manpower isn't deserving of the title.
My perception of Nintendo is that they're an enthusiast company at heart. They sometimes hit it big with their ideas, but due to their nature, they're unable to sustain it. Fairly conservative with their IPs, but still can surprise you every now and then.
