I've noticed this over my four decades on this planet- guys that lift weights all the time are extremely insecure about their self-image. Like a 14 year old girl, you can destroy their self-esteem with a simple offhand comment like, "Hmmm, you look like you're putting on some fat" or "Your biceps seem to be losing some definition."

Try it some time. It's fun watching them go into a tailspin.

I will confess that I have had self-image issues over the course of my life, but so do many people.

It has more to do with the unintended insult directed at something you have dedicated yourself to for quite some time. Working out instilled self-confidence in me, helped release endorphins, and kept me disciplined.

Not every guy who goes to the gym regularly is a douchebag.
