The idealized "free market" is one where by definition nobody has an information advantage to start with. It wouldn't be an idea (good or bad), it would be what already is.

As to whether it would be a good idea, it depends on who you're talking about. For example, the employer is a market participant too and has an obvious incentive to keep such stuff on the DL.
