I've made this drive dozens of times and I can say with certainty that there isn't a single tourist attraction worth stopping for. Jackson and Memphis are nasty and St. Louis area is a powder keg to be avoided right now. Springfield will add about 50 miles to your trip, not worth it IMO.
Amtrak out of Hammond will take you to Chicago overnight. If you've never traveled by train it may be an experience worth considering although it's more expensive than flying.
In my younger days I always drove non-stop but in recent years I split it into two days because night driving has become a problem. A good place to spend the night is Blytheville, AR, almost exactly half way. It's a college/Air Force town so it has some good restaurants and night life and is safe.
