In an era where the game was no friend to QBs and WRs. True his interception numbers are up and completion percentages are down compared to the other QBs of that era, but that's because they didn't throw the ball as much as he did. He was the first QB in history to throw more than 500 passes in a season. And that was before the underneath crossing routes of the West Coast offense were developed. Namath's favorite plays were deep posts and go routes. He was a gunslinger before it was safe to be a gunslinger in the NFL.
