Drives me crazy when I see people with their dogs on hiking trail and not leashed. They are only putting their dogs at potential risk. Only time I ever let go of my dogs' leashes is if we are going downhill a mountain trail on a steep slope down and they could potentially pull me down and fall. I let them go to get down slope and then quickly pick leashes up.

I also have a 75 lb lab mix though, I hike with both of them. He can easily pull me and make me fall. He's done it before in the past by accident.
