Check for an Oring or seal on the inside of the cap. It may be damaged or missing if the light comes on. Or jsut not tight enough. I'm guessign that car has a sealed fuel system so if the cap is not on properly or has a leak, it will set the light off.

Shouldnt have anything to do with it not starting though.
