That's what you're supposed to do. And you can eat something, you just aren't supposed to pig out or have a full meal.

Sort of.
Abstinence (no meat from mammals or birds, but can eat however much you'd like) on Ash Wednesday and Fridays during Lent
Fasting (one meal, two small snacks that together don't equal the size of a meal) on Ash Wednesday and Good Friday
