But the whole thing recently where almost literally every line of dialogue from Abed is about them being in a TV show is just annoying.

It is everyone, but I thought it was a good commentary on how hard it is to make the show, make the show good, please the fans, and still do what you want as a creator.
The episode served as a good way to send the characters off if that's what ends up happening, but also a good explanation of why it can't keep going on. The characters, the creators, and the viewers (
) all need to start moving on. Keep just a little hope for more, but realize that there may not be more.
