Is it really worth it to play in this shitty tournament in the first place

Yes, it gives you extra games to play and more time for guys to play together in a post-season atmosphere which helps build for the next year.

The CIT is a tournament for mid-majors only so it is a good test to see how well you stack up against other likewise schools.

We are in the same tournament hosting UT-Martin, looking forward to seeing how far we can make it.

and then on top of that have to travel to a crappy Southland school?

UIW is a solid mid-najor team that finished 18-10 . Being that they are in transition to D1 they were unable to qualify for the SLC tourney or NCAA tournament.

The Southland has improved quite a bit over recent years with the top teams (SFA, Sam Houston and Northwestern State) being among the better mid-major teams on a yearly basis. UIW is definitely not a pushover.

Good points. I think the key here is do the kids really want to play in the tournament. If the answer is "yes" and the athletic department is willing to fork over the cash, then have at it. It is always pretty easy to see which teams are excited to be in the NIT and which teams don't…and for that matter, the lower tier football bowl games are the same.
