quote:Thanks. I had put ADP on when I first got it. When I go to the Microsoft Security Essentials page it tells me that Windows Defender is "built in" to the latest Windows. I have Windows 8.1. Is that enough?
No install Microsoft Security essentials. It is free and light on the system resources.
Install ad block on your favorite browsers and you should be fine.

Microsoft Security Essentials isn't available for Windows 8/8.1. If you don't install any antivirus at all, Windows Defender is activated--Windows Defender is basically a built-in Microsoft Security Essentials. It is silent, though--you won't see anything until you run across an infected file.
This is "enough" for most tech-savvy people, but if you're not tech-savvy I would suggest installing a full paid antivirus program, like MalwareBytes Premium or Webroot SecureAnywhere.
