I found a makita 15A for around ~$100

It is but you'll be able to tackle a lot of carpentry projects. 15A Makita will do great, the 13A is a bit lighter and the smooth base plate makes it easier to freehand rip but probably not something you'll be doing anyway.

I've been watching videos all morning so this is perfect timing. Check out DIY Pete for some pretty cool stuff. I'm actually working on a cool patio bench and bar cart from his site.

On the topic of tools:

Good drill
Speed square
Level

And then your circular saw and you can do a lot of things.
