The Texas Legislature, which two years ago gave small breweries the right to sell a limited amount of beer that visitors could drink on site, soon could consider a game-changing bill that would all customers to buy beer to take home.

Texas State Senator Kevin Eltife (R-Tyler) introduced Senate Bill 1386, which grants Texas craft brewery visitors the right to take home beer purchased at Texas craft breweries.  Along with a companion bill (House Bill 3086) introduced in the Texas State House of Representatives by Rep. Jim Keffer (R-Eastland), this legislation is expected to further enhance the national recognition Texas craft beer brings to the state, encourage craft beer fans to travel to Texas, and bolster Texas’ reputation as a craft beer destination.

Great news. I'd like to take a growler home from my neighborhood brewery.

Didn't read he link, but what is the logic behind these stupid laws, anyway? Do they date back to the "blue laws" and the preachers just wanted to make it difficult for people to buy alcohol? Or are the distributors/BMC behind them?

ETA: Minors are not allowed in breweries or taprooms that don't sell food in Oregon, for what it's worth. Probably 1/2 the taprooms I frequent don't sell food on premise. The vast majority of the breweries sell food. Notable exceptions are The Commons and Upright.

As far as taprooms go, the more mavenly they are, the less likely they are to sell food. At the same time, they all allow you to bring your own food in, and there are some pretty damn good food joints that make a living off catering to people drinking in taprooms.

Oregon has some dumb regulations, but compared to most states, it's Utopia.

The exact same bill just passed the Senate earlier today here in Georgia.

Granted the bill that was passed has been amended so many damn times it is basically worthless but still, progress for sure.
