For a broad based outdoor education you should get him a subscription to outdoorlife.

Then check out the state parks web site and/or visit them and the have lots of reference material.

Also have him take his hunter and boater safety courses.

As far as getting him out and hunting there are lots of places that are willing to get young guys in the field.


As much as possible you should do these things with him.





If you want a chance to put down a pig or two on a father/son hunt let me know.

get him a few of the Patrick Mcmanus books as wel las some field guides. Mcmanus is a outdoor humor writer. - use to do the back page of Outdoor Life. If he likes Hunting / Fishing he will enjoy those books.

most important of all...

a lot of reading for the hunter ed course, but AFAIC not well suited to keep a 13yo attention...
