To be fair, that's like saying a doctor can't treat a disease unless he's had it himself. Or you can't help a buddy with a drug addiction because you've never had one. Certainly someone like a priest can provide general advice and counseling.

All that being said - that's not who j would go to.

Eta: time would be better spent lining up a good attorney

good point, however people that go to priests for advice are usually Catholic, therefore making the relationship one sided in favor of the priest, they are likely to be somewhat intimidated and inclined to take whatever advice he gives to heart because of his position, not necessarily because it's sound advice
