I am dealing with this right now. I was in the hospital for 15 days in December.
I had a nerve conduction study in January and my neurologist said that I have severe nerve damage in my lower legs. He said that it was caused by being in the hospital bed for so long. My right leg is worse. At first both of my legs felt like they were on fire constantly, then my lower legs, and now it's only in my feet. I feel like I'm waking on a baseball in the ball of my foot. I can't feel the outside of my lower legs.
I had to walk with a walker for 2 months. I'm down to one crutch now. I'm trying to get my range of motion back. I have more pain at the end of the day after I've walked all day.
My neuro said that the nerves will heal but it will take time. I'm relatively young and I don't have diabetes or any other condition that would slow the healing process. He said it would probably be 6 months before I'm 100%.
I take Lyrica. It works much better than neurotin. I'm up to 150 MG 3 times a day now. I still have pain, but it's not as bad as before. I am not having any side effects from the lyrica.
