Should I "move" to Baton Rouge the night before the game or is it driveable?
It is certainly driveable, but like others have said, give yourself plenty of time, and if you're like me, prepare to be stressed out by:
the traffic
finding a place to park
and the traffic.

I believe some Baton Rouge hotels have shuttles to the stadium.
We went to the Kentucky game last year (first time from out of town) and stayed downtown.
One option is a shuttle that runs from the Hotel Indigo (right across from the Hilton) - corner of Lafayette and Convention. I think the ticket was 7 bucks or something (per person) and they dropped us off across the street from the stadium. They were waiting after the game with a fleet to droppoff at several stops downtown. The ride back was by far the quickest I've ever gotten away from campus after a game. The whole thing took a ton of stress out of the sitiuation.
I had horendous timing and jacked my knee up badly the night before we drove down to BR. I was hobbling around like I was in 'Nam. I was honestly thinking about scrubbing the whole game day operation but this bus option took A LOT of walking out of the picture and made it doable.
Obviously, you'll want to do more than "point A to point B" if you're looking for the whole experience.

How to get tickets?
Getting them on campus is probably your best option if money is a concern. Like most others have expressed, I've yet to be at ANY game where there weren't plenty of tickets to be bought day of. Waiting until gametime or shortly after kickoff can be stressful but you'll get them at face value (I've even managed to have some very nice folks unload some free SEC tickets on me slightly after kickoff once).
My girlfriend got our Kentucky tickets (as a surprise) from stubhub. It was nice not to have to worry about it day of. I never asked, but I'm assuming she got thoroughly raped.
But that's how we roll, rapings get swept under the rug in exchange for game days.
