I alway think it's funny when people list positive qualities of a city and one of the top things is that it close to cities that have more to offer

That's easy. Some cities, like New Orleans, are really fun places to visit, but can be difficult places to live. Thus, living in a place that gives one easy access to the city when they want it, but allows one to avoid the pitfalls of living there can be a desirable quality.

For example: if someone loves Saints games, hitting Tips every now and then, and eating at Commander's New Orleans is a great place to visit. If they hate potholes, living in close quarters to other people, street parking, bad public schools, and gang violence, then maybe New Orleans isn't the best place to live. In that case, a location that is safe, has good public schools, has more space between homes, AND is close enough to still do the things you like, it's a pretty big advantage, especially if you don't have to commute to the city every day. At that point, it just becomes a massive waste of time.
