I like Cooks also, but my concern was a short QB throwing to a short WR

That's a pretty decent point, to be honest. The ideal situation for getting the ball to Cooks would be a designed rollout by Brees so that he can get clear line-of-site downfield to make his reads to make the spot throw. Last year was maddening, the designed rollouts seemed to get flushed out before the routes could develop and many of the 5 step drop plays resulted in Brees having to run for his life.

Lets also not fool ourselves, a weapon like Cooks is only as good as the plays designed to get him the ball. To be honest, I didn't see much of Payton's offensive genius last year. For Cooks to be successful, Payton will have create more downfield plays for Cooks to get into space.

One thing that impressed me about Cooks for last year is his ability to catch in traffic. He still shies away from contact (which he probably should if he wants to have a good, long career) but he doesn't appear to be afraid to make the hard catches. He'll be good, let's just hope the line and playcalling improves.

Cooks and Randall Cobb are the same damn height.

Look at Steve Smith. His height doesn't mean a fricking thing.

some good discussion. I think few are down on Cooks in any way. More is discussion of other picks or the need issue. The need at CB seemed to grow week by week.

Scanned most of this thread. This stood out-
To be honest, I didn't see much of Payton's offensive genius last year.

Ya know, I caught myself wondering if the league had caught up with his schemes and play calling. His unconventionalness has sometimes become too predictable. A hallmark of Payton when he first arrived was calling something that completely surprised me. Yeah, I'm very used to him now, but still. Last year things weren't clicking- for many assorted reason I spose.
