When the other defense is focused on Shaq it would open up so many more opportunities for McGrady to get open shots, drive the lane, get assists etc. When that happened it would increase his confidence and when players are more confident they are better.

Its like how QB's can become better players when they have a great line and WR's. Look at Kurt Warner when he was on the Giants versus the Cardinals, wouldn't you say he was a better player with the Cardinals?

Yep, and his numbers would be better..but he'd still be the same exact player.

Because Tracy McGrady in his prime was as confidently as he could possibly be?

They don't become better, they're the exact same guy, but put up better numbers because of their casts...but technically speaking, they are the same guy whether they have a team full of studs or are on a crap team.
