If you have time, rent a car and head to the coast. My favorite town I visited was st malo, which is a beautiful medieval town on the English Channel.

Also, mont st Michel is awesome, but touristy- go early in the day if you go.

All the little beach towns along the coast are awesome. Honfleur, etc.

Rouen is a cool day trip. Enjoyed it way more than I thought I would. Sweet architecture and interesting little local places (black plague museum, etc).

Also, the best ruin I went to in that part of France was abbaye de jumieges, but it's off the beaten path.
