Ehhhhhh.
From what I understand, they form memories and understand what happened in the past, they just don't understand the concept of time like humans, so if you smack him 2 hours ago or 5 years ago they don't understand the time difference between the two, just that both events occurred in the non-current time. Maybe they vaguely understand time concepts, but it has to be a WHILE.
I think a lot of people feed in to confirmation bias when thinking their dog is so much more pumped after a week instead of a day.
