You dont even have to be a citizen to get healthcare in this country
. You certainly dont need any type of permit to own a firearm. If it is just for home defense and you dont hunt, I would start with youth model pump 20 gauge shotgun. Remington 870 is serviceable and affordable. Next would be full sized 9mm. Then an AR.
