The only statistic that adds unnecessary strain on the defense is time of posession. Bad TOP=defense getting fatigued throughout the game. LSU's time of posession happens to be one of the best in the country. Chavis left because he wanted more money to add to his retirement fund, period. Chavis is currently filing a lawsuit against his ex and current (wtf) employer over $400k. The guy is all about the money at this point in his career and anybody that thinks otherwise is kidding themselves.

The offense not scoring, even if they hold the ball for a long time, means the defense has to hold the other team to lower point totals than if the offense was scoring more. Seems pretty simple to me.

Um. Look, I'm not trying to ride Chavis' jock here, but that's just a retarded assertion. The ONLY statistic that can strain a defense is TOP?

I mean....speaking generally and not just about LSU, you're saying that inability to score or maybe tons of turnovers couldn't cause a strain on a defense?

I mean hey, if I'm a DC and my offense is putting up 40 a game that's going to make my job a LOT easier. And, if my offense is scoring 10 per game, that's a LOT more challenging.
