You do realize pilots are told where to fly from the route they are issued from their companies dispatch to then being passed off to what ever atc center they are in. Now I'm sure there are shitty pilots but 9 times out of 10 they are told where to be I guess creating these close calls as you say.
Continental's worst mistake was to merge with United. They had worked hard to become a good airline and sold out for the overseas market.

I was a platinum level flyer for years with Continental and a couple after the merge. United service and reliability is the worst of the worst. I now fly Southwest almost exclusively and find the experience almost tolerable and reliability superior.
If I never sit on an airplane again I am good with it. Headed to the ATL on Monday morning, again.

Were all the close call with other united planes?

I was a Platinum member with CO and flew ONE time after the merger with UA. I will take a train or bus before I fly with UA. They have been having issues with the pilots since the merger. Made me feel uneasy having ticked off crew members in control of my flight. Ticked off FA does not bother me, I sleep as soon as I get on a plane, but ticked off people in the cockpit is another thing.

This is about the same type message as when I see someone say that an entire airline is crappy because it lost that persons luggage on a vacation and no one should ever fly with them again

There are limited options Leaving out of Houston on something other than United.
Drive on down to Hobby and fly Southwest. You can't complain there. They are ranked top 5 in the nation every year.

They also have to hire 700 new pilots this year due to a huge wave of retirements
Sorry, but I see this as a positive. It's not like they pull pilots out of the local janitors union. You should do your homework on the minimums required to even be considered to be a pilot for a passenger airline.
So you want your grandad piloting, or your dad?

Tell me more about these "close calls" and how you found out about them.

Delta hired close to 1000 last year and is expected to do it again this year. American is supposed to hire more then that. So since United is hiring only 700 I guess that makes them the safest, right?
And the people they are hiring are extremely experienced and qualified pilots (hopefully I'll be one of them) that have been flying for smaller airlines for years, not just some dude off the street that they have to teach how fly.

They didn't "just issue this". They sent it to there pilots over a month ago.
I flew United to Aspen last week. Everything was fine. If I had flown American out of Dallas My flight would have been cancelled because of snow in Dallas.

Sounds like they need to take a look at their training and operation procedures to me.
