It's legal in most circumstances. The Id and questioning would be done to confirm that it's legal. Believe it or not, if you cooperate, answer questions and provide id, you are not going to be threatened and will likely be on your way in less than a minute.

Let me ask you a question, how do you feel about voter id laws? I have a feeling I know what your answer will be considering you have answered most questions in this thread with the answer that most supports your position, no matter how asinine.

Oh. I thought any time a cop stopped you, it was a threat. Good to know it's not. I'll just ignore them next time it happens to me.

Good lawd, we are now comparing voter id's to cops saying papers please for legally carrying a weapon!

Then get the law changed to require those openly carrying to submit to providing identification. Texas state law does not require that.

Otherwise, you are being illegally detained. And make no mistake, if you walk away from the "questioning," you will likely be arrested for evading arrest or detention.
