Basketball hasn't made the tourny in how long? If they didn't have Patrick, that wouldn't be any different. And we can make predictions about next year but what's that worth?

Maybe someone who follows basketball more closely can answer for sure, but I was under the impression Patrick played a key role in getting Mickey and Martin also. Without them this year we aren't even in the bubble discussion. Without Patrick we definitely don't have Simmons and who ever else he brings with him, which at worst should put us back in the same position next year. It isn't Kentucky level success but it is better than what we usually have and it is building some excitement and support for the program.

As for Dunn, I'm not saying he isn't great at what he does. I'm saying baseball would have someone comparable to him if it wasn't him. There are a bunch of tiers/levels of coaches between Dunn and the type of coach it would have taken for LSU to not even make the tournament in those years. I don't think it is realistic to assume LSU would have hired at the bottom of the list immediately after firing someone from the same position.

What the discussion comes down to is this: What is more likely to happen if both coaches left tomorrow? LSU baseball hiring one of the top pitching coaches in college baseball? Or LSU basketball hiring an assistant that will bring elite level talent to Baton Rouge (two top 20 players in one class, #1 in the class, etc)?

More good points. But you're putting a lot of focus on recruiting whereas I'm looking closer at results. I dont know if Patrick brought in Mickey and Martin either. That's a key point but if we didn't have them, you're assuming we get lower tier players. Okay. But we're still out of the tourney last year and who knows where we end up this year with them. And next year is speculation. I guess it's tough for me to give him so much credit when most of what he's done is for the future and there's no way to quantify it yet.
