Nothing new.

I'm willing to admit that I never considered anything other than suicide is a selfish act and this thread made me think a bit more on the other possibilities. With that said, there is no doubt in my mind that not all people who commit suicide are mentally ill.

Your definition and what you can look at and spot as "mentally ill" isn't always what others experience as mentally ill.

It manifest its self in so many different ways that some of the most brilliant minds have studied the brain and has only figured out the tip of the iceberg.

The best thing to do is to try not to look into it too deep and don't try to ostracize mental illness. Don't even pity the ones that suffer one of the many illnesses. But realize that it isn't black and white or necessarily "selfish" when you don't know what an individual is struggling with.

Good for you, Shawn. And I hope you think more and gain a little peace towards your friend. That's the only reason I shared my story. I prefer to share less heartfelt things with the OT
