Just a month ago my best friend killed himself. We were like brothers and very close. He had gotten married 2 months prior. I was a groomsman in his wedding and he was supposed to be the best man in my upcoming wedding.
When I heard I was in complete shock, honestly I still am. I still struggle with it daily but I have to keep moving on for my own family. I feel absolutely terrible for his mother and wife. They will be scarred for the rest of their lives.

I know some of the details that led him to this, but never saw him making such a drastic move. He reached out to me and we talked about things, but I showed him tough love and told him to man up. I now question if I was too harsh. Had I just listened to him and talked more in depth with him about what he was struggling with, maybe I could have helped and he'd still be here.
I'll never now, but I sure as hell wonder and think about it every day. I miss him. Miss the crazy text and conversations, the laughs, the good times.

No way should you ever blame yourself for things like this.... don't do it.

Was not your fault. Cookie just crumbles that way sometimes and there are things you can't help or change.

You had no way in hell knowing what was going on inside of his brain.

Sorry to hear that. Don't question yourself. It won't help anything

I beat myself up for a long time because my business employs lots of landmen. I marketed his resume to several of our brokers. I kept thinking if I'd have tried harder and found him a job then he wouldn't have given up

But that is so flawed. And for one thing it puts you in too important a position. Kinda like you're God. Like you could've saved their life. It's weird
