The fam and I will be spending a day or two at the south rim in June.

Generally speaking, North Rim isn't as crowded, developed or hot. It's "harder" to get to and is at a higher elevation than the South Rim.

Depends on what you're doing (hiking?), and what you want to see. They are both very different in landscape, as the North Rim is at a higher elevation. The North Rim is much more forested and green, TONS of aspens. As another poster mentioned it's much less crowded. It felt like there was hardly anyone there when we went at the beginning of August a couple of years ago. If staying for a few nights, I'd suggest the North Rim and grab one of the cabins if they're even still available.

However, unless you are hiking to the bottom and back, IMO I would not suggest making the Grand Canyon your only destination if you are vacationing for a few days or more. I'd suggest you stay a night at one of the rims and spend the day checking out some of the trails. I've been to North Rim, and we incorporated this with a trip to Zion National Park, Bryce Canyon Natl Park, and a stop in Page, AZ on the way there and saw Antelope Canyon and Horseshoe Bend. Stayed a few nights at Zion, there is lots to do there. Bottom line is, GC is just awesome, but after a full day it's possible to see just about everything there is at the rim.

I'm going to the South Rim over spring break for the first time, and we're taking a day trip there from Sedona, where we're staying for 5 nights.

The Grand Canyon is very cool but way down the list of national parks for me. Zion, Bryce, Canyonlands, and Arches in Utah are all prettier to me. Most of them also have better hiking.

That lodge at the North Rim is pretty awesome. The grand dining room is something else, too - the view and all.

We did both. Rode horses in Byrce, and we spent 4 nights in Vegas.

Fly in to Phoenix, head up to Sedona for 2 days before hitting the South Rim. Spend 2 days at the GC(stay at El Tovar). Then head over to Vegas for 2 or 3 days.
