You're missing the point. Laird CAN make that play in left, but Laird CAN'T make that throw in right. Also, that catch in left could just as easily happen in right; not so with the throw.

Guys, I'm not sure if you're aware of this, and I'd say no based some on some of the responses, but the distance from right field to home is, get this, the exact same distance as it is from left field. Likewise, the throw to second base is, amazingly, the same distance as well. The throw to 3rd, I concede, is farther from right than it is from left.
Eta: this isn't to say a stronger armed right fielder isn't better. It indeed is, and I'd agree with Laird needing to be in left. But to suggest he can make plays at home from left and not right is lacking the basic understanding of physics.
