I am 44 and flaw diagnosed with Stage IV Lymphoma at age 40. Five months of Chemo only knocked it out....or so we thought. Came back 5 months later and the relapse treatment regimen was much worse. Three months of a more intense chemo, 4 radiation treatments to the brain and 20 to where the tumor was located on my spine. A month before my stem cell transplant, They harvested my own cells to freeze for the procedure. I had to give myself Two shots in the belly a day for 11 days straight to kick my stem cell production into overdrive for the harvesting. My poor wife sucked at giving the shots so I just did it myself. A week before the transplant, I had received two treatments of high dose chemo to kill all the bone marrow in my body as well as Two days of TBI(total body irradiation) . Then the transplant. Spent over 70 days inpatient at Emory. Cancer sucks. But I have been in remission 2 years now and really don't spend time thinking about it returning. If it does, I'll beat it again.
