There are some pictures throughout but it's a real book. The artwork looks like the Justice League cartoon era so if he's familiar with that show on Netflix he'll recognize all the guys.

The stories seem to be good and, for what it's worth, stay close to cannon because I'll hear my son say that he's familiar with a character he sees show up in a TV show or movie and he'll be talking about these books.

And Amazon has a ton of them for about $6...
