I would recommend it to anyone who is a fierce competitor. A lot of people are competitors on the football field, but when it comes to weights and other things they kind of slack. No one should go in there without the knowledge that every kid there is legitimately competing against one another.
It was just starting to get popular when I was in high school and while I didn't get a scholarship to any D-1 schools, I did receive preferred walk on offers and I always like to think that doing every camp or Nike event I did helped.

Then he should certainly take part IMO. The only way to get noticed, unless your someone like Dylan Moses, is to get yourself out there and there's no better way than going to these things.
A bit of advice, my parents did a lot of my recruiting because it was somewhat obvious that I wasn't going to play for LSU or another big D-1 school, but if DII is what you're thinking then be prepared to send out a lot of tape yourself unless you live pretty close to a DII school or your kid has a caring coach. That's what my parents and I did because my coach was a dick and wouldn't send out tape unless college coaches asked and paid for it.
Things may have changed since then though, that was close to six years ago.
Regardless, I regret not walking on at Texas State every day of my life.
